The PRS track & field athletes performed well under unusually cool and overcast weather on Saturday at Mt. Carmel High School. The meet featured the best 27 athletes from both D1 and D2 in every event. To make CIF FInals the athlete had to finish in the top 9 (12 for the 1600 and 3200) based on time or mark.

The day started off with Kimberly Cheung qualifying for CIF Finals in the 1600 with a fast 5.12.65, very close to her personal record. Later in the 300 hurdles, Katarina Maric qualified by placing 7th overall for CIF Finals with a fast closing kick and good 48.40 time. Kimberly Cheung came back near the end of the meet to run the 3200. She had to battle two other girls over the last lap to finish in 11th to qualify for CIF Finals, all separated by only a half a second. The end of the meet featured the PRS girls 4 x 400 relay team. The team consisted of Kimberly, Katarina, Shanyce McCullough, and McKayla Proulx. They didn't qualify for CIF Finals, but ran a good race that places them in the top 5 on the PRS school record list.

In the boy's CIF Prelim meet, Daniel Harrell had a good day, throwing near his PR in both the shot and discus. Daniel came up just short of making CIF finals with an 11th place finish in the shot put and a 10th place finish in the discus. With most of the competition being juniors and seniors, Daniel will have a good chance to make CIF Finals the next two years. Owen Curran got in the meet late last week when a competitor scratched and opened a spot for him to participate. Owen gained valuable experience running the 400 at CIF Prelims and hopes to leverage the race to help him qualify next year.
