PRS Cashes In at Coastal League Finals

Steve Edwards 5/11/2018

The PRS track & field team once again stepped up at Coastal League Finals and performed well under pressure. For those statistically minded, the PRS team brought home 15 PRs, four school records, 9 medals, and three athletes who automatically qualified for CIF Prelims next Saturday at Mt. Carmel High School.

Kimberly Cheung (3200), Daniel Harrell (shot put), and Katarina Maric (300 hurdles) all qualified for CIF Prelims by finishing in first in their events. Kimberly (2nd in 1600) and Daniel Harrell (3rd in discus) may also qualify for CIF Prelims by the quality of their times or marks.

Katarina for the fifth consecutive time lowered her PR in the 300h to 47.85, beating the school record by .05. Owen Curren continued his onslaught on the 200 and 400 school records, breaking both when it counted the most. Daniel's huge shot put throw of 44'6.50 beat his own school record by almost 2 feet. Charlene Zhoa upped her own school record with a discus throw of 68-04. Jordi Bertran continued to lower his school record in the 110 hurdles and was very close to the 300h record.

Distance had a excellent day. Kimberly (2nd, 1st) and Zach (2nd, 2nd) both medaled in the 1600 and 3200. McKayla Proulx (3rd place medal) and Shanyce McCullough both set PRs in the 1600. In the 3200, Chris, Colin and Cougar all had big PRs. In sprints, Megan PR'd in the 200 and Tanisha in the 800. In hurdles, Mika PR'd in the 100 hurdles and Eliza Lawlor set a new best in the 300h.

Congrats to all and special thumbs up to Coaches Cantu and Reinke.
