The PRS Surf Team concluded their competitive season with a decisive win over The Bishop’s School today at Mission Beach, finishing 4-1 and 2nd place in Division 5.
The competitors arrived at the beach at 6:45 to brisk offshore wind, small but glassy 2’ surf, and a peach/raspberry sorbet sunrise. With the utmost enthusiasm and encouragement for one another, the Firebirds breezed by the Knights led by former PRS teacher John Nagler with a 54-47 win.
Sydney Benedict earned a semifinals spot on the individual level in both the women’s shortboard and longboard divisions. Nate McClymonds, Alex Schaerer, Ryan Greenlee, and Keenan Walsh all advanced to the individual rounds in the men’s shortboard division. Nate McClymonds made it to the semifinals of the longboard division on what has become the collective team longboard (a water-logged Catch Surf soft-top that has previously been used to paddle my children around on my back). Ryan Greenlee was also a medalist in the bodyboard division sans swim fins and on a rented spiderman surfcraft no less.
It has been our honor and pleasure to work with these young men and women in and out of the water this year. Please congratulate all of our surfriders when you see them on campus Tuesday.
Sincerely,
Mr. Webber and Mr. Kelso
